We want to thank the Council for their generous support over the years. We’ve made the most of the funding which helps us to hold 11 events in the year, publish newsletters and support advocacy activity that gives business in Porirua a voice.
The business community aims to be a ‘critical friend of the council.’ What does that mean? It means that we think it is important to speak our minds and say what is in the interests of Porirua business when decision-making is happening in our area.
The Porirua Chamber needs your help as the Council considers ending the funding that plays a huge role in making our activities possible.
Porirua’s economy has felt the impact of economic contraction and recessionary conditions in the last year. In December 2024, an Infometrics report illustrated that a range of indicators are being affected by weak economic conditions. Infometrics provisionally estimates that Porirua’s economy contracted 1.7% over the year to December 2024, and by 2.5%pa in the December 2024 quarter — the fifth consecutive quarterly decline.
As business in Porirua recovers, providing those businesses with support and an independent voice in times of need is essential.
We’d love local supporters of all kinds to contact the council and let them know a Chamber is an important part of being a growing city. You can have your say on the proposed changes by clicking here.
